Bouches du Rhône (13)

Canal d’Arles, Arles à Fos.
Still not fished very much, this canal never the less contains mirrors to 17 kg+ - smaller commons of 5-9 kg -but also up to 14 kg being more than 95% of the catches, though. On the stretch at Arles, where nightfishing is authirized, the canal is about 200 yards wide, while most of the rest i 35 yards. From Mas Thibert towards the countersluice facing the Mediterranean, for 35 km the canal lies in natural surroundings. Nightfishing authorized in the arch upstreams Pont Van Gogh at Port de Fos to the sluice. On the other side of the sluice, Nightfishing authorized on the left Rhône bank, lot PK279 to PK284. 

Canal du Bas-Rhône, Beaucaire.
Runs from Beaucaire, passing St. Gilles to Aigues-Mortes at the Mediteranean coast, passing north of „Petite Carmarque". You can't fish from everywhere along the banks. Contains huge quantities of carp to 5-8 kg and bigger. A good spot is 8 km from Beaucarie by D38 towards St. Gilles, at the sluice at Nourriguier, where commons to 15 kg and even bigger mirros are frequently caught bu the few who actually fish this water. In "Zone Maritime" the fishing is free! Particles are normally prefered to boilies.

  • Up to 4 rods are authorized.

  • Nightfishing is authorized in weekends only  (3 nights a week) on selected stretches of some waters.

Canal Philippe Lamour, Montpellier.
The potentials of this canal connecting Montpellier to the Rhône, passing Vauvert et Perrier (where the famous mineral water comes from) have yet to explored in detail by serious carp anglers. Big carp are often lost during competitions here.

Carmargue,
The whole area is crawling with carp - mainly smaller fish, but loads of 20 kg+ carp has been caught by carpanglers, and fish exceeding 30 kg are said to be caught in the nets of the professional fishermen in the area. Both Grand and Petite Rhône and the many small canals holds impressive fish stocks.
Fishing in "zone maritime" is free - night and day - that is between Pont Sylvèral on D58 and the southern quai of Port-Saint-Louis. 3 rods are allowed. Huge catfish are also present - and a 5 kg carp has been watched dissapear like a minnow in a perch! The banks are mostly very overgrown, and a boat is almost a must here. By night boats should be lighted according to seaway regulations.

Delta du Rhône,  
An unimaginable potential of really big carp and catfish - yet virtually undisclosed - lies at our hands here - and almost noone fish for them! Carp of 20 to 30 kg+ are frequently caught in nets (and often sold illeagally to private waters - or exported to brittish buyers!). As it's well known that big carp are actually not easily caught in nets - there must be loads of them swimming these waters!
However, fishing from the banks is difficult, as there's actually not many clear swims to fish from - and acces to many is only possible by boat.

 

Durance
Several nightfishing sectors present. 
- from Pont de Pertuis upstreams seuil n°6; at Plan d'Orgon, 
- plan d'eau n°1 & 2 
- on the right bank from Pont routier de Rognonas to seuil de Courtine - 2500 m. (Lot C9)
- both banks downstream the seuil de Courtine - 2800 m.

Grand Rhône
Nightfishing allowed 
- left bank from PK 279 (at the right of the Petit Rhône) to PK 284 (chantier naval de Barriol). 
- from PK 316.6 bac de Baccarin to PK 325.8 at quai Bonnardel in Port Saint Louis du Rhône. La Lône du Bois François included.
- right bank from PK 279.000 to PK 283.500and from PK 285.500 to PK 288.000. 
- from PK 316.6 Bac de Baccarin to PK 323.5 bordering to domaine de la Palissade.

Petite Rhône, zone Maritime, Sylvéral,
Downstream Le Pont Sylvéreal the „Code rural" does not apply any more - and the river can be fished by night - and for free on 15 kilometers of bank! Many carp, catfish and mullets swimm in these waters. The main problem here is not the lack of big carp and catfish, for they are certainly there - it's the monstrous ammounts of small fish you have to catch first to get the biggies!
Many carp of 20-25 kg has been caught here - and a few 30 kg+ as well - so, when conditions are right, an enormous potential is evident.

Pellenc, Étang de
Nightfishing is allowed on the bank next to the Durance river.
