Cournon d’Auvergne, Lac de, Clermont-Ferrand,
Carp of 26 kg reported from this 22 ha water, close to the Allier river, about 10 km southeast of  Clermont-Ferrand. Fish of 13-17 kg are quite common, but average size are around the 5 kg mark. Grasscarp also present. Toilets and showers available at the nearby camping. Nightfishing only allowed on particular dates - and boilies are for some obscure reason not allowed - on the claims, that only these are alledgedly the cause of pollution of the water - while groundbaits and other baits are apparently not - and polution from surrounding farmland is not even considered!
Permits can be obtained from tackle dealers in Cournon.

Fades, La retenue des Riom.
Also called Barrage des Ancizes, this water is very well stocked with carp. The original stock unfortunately was detrimented greatly by a quite hard vidange some years back - and unfortunately the restocking have been undertaken with a strain of carp not growing particularly big, as they seem to reach 8-9 kg in a hurry - but rarely grow much bigger. Fish have been caught to 15 kg+  occasionally, and 20 kg+ fish have also been caught from here (probably a few fish left of the old stock). Blanks are rare on this water. Nightfishing sectors are available for 2008 - but too small and few in a big water like this!

Fayat, Étang de, Verneugheol, Auvergne.
This quiet and calm lake of 11 ha. in  820 meters altitude can be fished on day-tickets - and nightfishing is authorized on specific days. Carp of 14 - 16 kilos are frequently caught, but most fish are considerably smaller. Phone 16 73 91 22 62. 

Martoise, Étangs de la,
These 2 small waters of 5 and 6 ha, about 15 km south of Clermont-Ferrand les Martes de Veyres, holds a good stock of 7-12 kg carp. Biggest 22,5 kg. Nightfishing weekends and all of july and august can be reserved by Magasin Pêche Passion, phone. 04 73 39 75 96. 15 pegs are available in all, and 3 rods are allowed.

Mas, Plan d'eau du, Commune d'Issoire
This 10 ha. private water close to the A75, about. 35 km south af Clermont-Ferrand is open for nightfishing 8 weekends a year - of which 2 are during enduros. 2 rods are permitted. Average weight of the carp are respectable 10 kgs - the biggest 17,5 kg. Grasscarp present too. Showers and toilets available on the camping site. More info on phone 04 73 93 17 41

Montmazot, Étang de, Ars les Favets, Clermont-Ferrand
This 7 ha. private lake can only be fished by the visitors of one of the 3 Gites of Ruralfranceholidays.com. The visitors are allowed to fish the lake freely from sunup to sundown - but no nightfishing allowed. Plenty of possibilities for the family vacations.

Neuf, Étang,  Commune de Montel.
This private water of 21 ha. allows nightfishing for carp from march 4 to november 12.  Good stock of commons, mirrors, koi and grasscarp. Biggest carp 16,8 kg. Easy access to 21 swims. Info: phone 05 55 83 90 21

Ramade, Étang de la, Giat, Auvergne.
This 86 ha rather shallow water, with depths from 2 to 5 meters, in 769 m altitude, has an exceptionally high water quality. Very rich in natural food for the carp, present to considerable size. Lake record is 22,3 kg (2007).
No less than 3 teams caught more than a hundredweight of carp during an enduro in this 85 ha water back in '98 - in just 48 hrs. - and more than 1 ton of fish were landed by the 22 teams participating! This catch has later been rivaled by 4 anglers catching 1 ton of carp in 6 nights in 2001!
Boats can be used for baiting - and only boilies and particles are allowed.
Day-tickets available in 2008 for 8€; an all-year ticket 160€ - but I'm no sure if this also covers night fishing. A camping is present on the lake, where caravans are for hire.

Saint Gervais d'Auvergne, Plan d'eau de,
First round of the french carp championship was held on this only 10 ha water in 2000. Biggest carp during the event was 15,7 kg, biggest grasscarp 19 kg. Average weight og the carp caught 8-9 kg. Nightfishing is allowed on half the lake. Showers and toilets available on the camping site.

Sauviat, Étang de, Courpière, Auvergne
Well stocked with carp to 20 kg, but quite difficult to fish due to very steep banks, this lake in Domaine Public is very little fished. 

Tour d'Auvergne, Étang de la,
This lake of 5 ha. in the mountains approx. 15 km south of Bourboule of the D129, in 950 meters altitude. It's almost unknown - but carp has been caught to 19 kg here. Nightfishing allowed part of the year - but not in july and august. Extra charge for nightfishing.
